The Pegasus Troop is the newest section in the 1st Sevenoaks Scout Group. It was formed in response to increasing demand for places in the Phoenix Troop and held its first meeting in September 2010. The troop started with 21 scouts of which half came from the Braeside and Hick’s Own cub packs and half were new to scouting. The troop now has over 30 scouts and is set to keep growing.

The Pegasus Troop meets on Friday evenings between 7 and 9pm during school term-time. The majority of meetings are held at the Group HQ on Oak Hill Road although some activities are held at other venues.

Badges

Interested in acquiring badges? Read on...
There are a whole host of badges that you can get at scouts. Unfortunately most of these require some input from you outside scouts. Also if you do any activities outside scouts such as martial arts, sailing, fencing or play musical instruments then there are badges that you can get. Check out www.scoutbase.org.uk for all the details on activity badges.

Activities

Pegasus Troop activities include:

Camps:

We endeavour to arrange one weekend camp each term. Occasionally we arrange novelty camps such as the Sleep Rough Camp in Sevenoaks to raise money for Porchlight.

The highlight of the scouting year is the week long summer camp. Past camps have been held in Cambridgeshire, Dorset, Berkshire and Oxfordshire (Cotswolds).

The 2011 Summer Camp took the Troops to Dartmoor.

Kayaking

Kayaking training sessions are held in an indoor swimming pool during the Autumn and Spring terms. Outdoor training is held on the Medway in Tonbridge during the summer term and this is followed by a trip on the River Mole.

Climbing

We arrange climbing sessions at the Sevenoaks School climbing wall each term.

Shooting/Archery

We run air rifle and archery activities at the Group HQ. We are looking to expand this to include competitions against other Scout Groups.

Hill Walking

This is an activity we are hoping to offer in the near future.
