2010 Activities

The scouts have spoken. You've said what you want to do in 2010. I've always said that it's your scouts, so this year's activities have been organised around those that you picked so no complaining.

Archery and Rifle Shooting

These activities come number one on your wish list. Consequently we're spending all the funds raised by the troop over Christmas on building these activities within the troop. We'll run another Master at Arms day this term and possibly another one next term building the equipment we have until hopefully we can bring this with us on camps.

Combat Laser

Coming in second is Laser Quest. We'll organise an event (hopefully this term) so that you can all practise your Modern Warfare sniper techniques.

Climbing
Next up is climbing. We're looking to see if we can use any of the local climbing walls in Sevenoaks to practise indoors and hopefully organise another trip to Harrison's Rocks in the summer. We'll gauge interest but a trip to the Peak District for some keener climbers to sample some gritstone could also be organised.

Sailing

You ask for it? We organise it. We hope to head back to Chipstead Lake in the summer and get out on the water.

Kayaking

Not number one???? Less popular than I'd hoped but none-the-less this up there. As interest is fairly average, we will simply repeat the trips that were offered last year but we'll spread them out throughout the spring as well as the summer. We'll offer trips on the River Medway, Mole, Thames and Wye to cater for all abilities. If anyone really catches the bug there will be opportunities to paddle some bigger and better rivers such as the Dart in the autumn but as a part of a larger group. One thing we do hope to organise is a proper BCU course in the spring to allow the keener scouts to gain kayaking skill qualifications.

Hiking

The final activity that we'll be organising is some proper hiking. In the past we've not ventured much further than Kent and nothing higher than Polhill. We'll look into organising a trip to the Welsh Mountains for the keener walkers and see if this is something that we want to repeat for future years. And then there's the Plender Hike in October. We'll have to do some preparation in order to defend our title.
